Michael Downey

Mike brings 45 years of business and banking experience, including serving as Senior Vice President of Business Services for a $4 billion-dollar credit union in Northern California. Throughout his career he has developed a deep passion for small business and believes that credit unions are the perfect partner to help them grow and thrive.

For over a decade he established one of the largest and most diverse business lending programs in the credit union industry. During the “Great Recession” while banks sat idly on the sidelines, he started the credit union’s SBA lending program, responsibly lending money where the banks refused, and positioning the credit union as one of the leading SBA lenders in the San Francisco District. From 2008 through 2015 he aggressively expanded the credit union’s commercial lending program and loaned more than $600,000,000 in the communities served by the credit union.

Since 2016, he has been working with credit unions to help them successfully create, grow and optimize their business lending programs. Mike believes that business lending is the perfect fit for credit unions and that credit unions need to continue to capitalize on the inherent advantages they bring to the marketplace by offering these essential programs to their business members.
